At Smallbrook, we have a passionate and dedicated team focused on delivering outstanding dementia and frail elderly care. The team includes management, highly-trained and registered nursing and care staff, lifestyle co-ordinators, catering team and maintenance staff. We believe every member of the Smallbrook team plays a key role in ensuring we deliver the highest level of person-centred care.

Registered Manager

I have worked for over 20 years in health and social care settings. From a background in hotel management, I was a director for a large organisation from the age of 21 years old. I have also worked for a charitable organisation affiliated with Mother Teresa. From that I started to find myself having a real interest in care.  As a registered manager at Smallbrook, I know the operation of the home and our residents and staff very well.  Health care is a forever changing “world” and each day is different which adds to the enjoyment of my role. For me, care is not just about the personal and health element of a care home. Of course, this is often the reason our residents come to live with us and is incredibly important, but for me it’s about far more than that, it’s about providing a holistic approach- along with personal and health care, providing the opportunities for service users to be able to make their own choices and be able to live a fulfilled life.

A key part of my role is ensuring we meet regulatory standards and that each and every resident is receiving the level of care they expect and deserve.

I take time to get to know residents and their relatives and work closely with our care staff, residents and stakeholders. One advice I took from my grandmother—“only listen to positive people as negative people hold you back”.  For me, this is key to doing my job the best I can.

Helen Johnson, Director of Operations

I have over 30 years’ experience working in health and social care settings with 18 years of dedicated service in healthcare management.  I bring a wealth of experience in dementia care and forming strong stakeholder relationships.  At the core of my mission is the drive to enhance the quality of life for those living in our care homes.  Aligning with values, I am devoted to leading with empathy, fostering a culture of excellence, and contributing diverse perspectives to our team’s collective success. 

I will be working in collaboration with our skilled and compassionate staff across both care homes to ensure the best possible outcomes for our residents, ensuring dignity, respect, and quality services for all.
